Dunfermline quintet awarded life membership medals for service to banding. Five Dunfermline City Brass Band members have been presented with their Scottish Brass Band

Association life membership medals for lengthy service to the brass banding community. The players were presented with the awards by DCB’s former conductor Andy Shaw who also received a presentation from the band to mark the 12 years he was in charge. Kristen Awlson, Christine Tyson, Kieran Morgan, Ron Shepherd and Jeff Sinclair have over 270 years of service to banding between them.

Kristen started playing in 1967 at Galashiels Academy before she joined Galashiels Town Band.Her first instrument was the tenor horn prior to moving to baritone. She played with numerous bands including Edinburgh City, Broxburn Public, Newtongrange Silver, Kinneil, Dalkeith & Monktonhall, Lochgelly and Cowdenbeath before joining Dunfermine in 1996.

Christine Tyson started to play on baritone in 1974 before switching to horn. She joined IrvineValley Brass Band and was a member of several bands – Newmilns & Galston, Carlisle St

Stephens, Annan Town and Lochgelly – before she became a member of Dunfermline. Euphonium / trombone player Kieran Morgan started playing in 1972. He was a member of Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly, Alva and Lochgelly before joining Dunfermline in 2014.

Ron Shepherd began playing the tenor horn in 1960 and has since been on cornet and soprano. His first band was Inverkeithing Silver and he was a member of the Dunfermline Salvation Army and Dunfermline Town bands before moving on to Kelty & Blairadam, followed by Dysart Colliery and Buckhaven before returning to Dunfermline City Brass. Jeff Sinclair’s playing career started at Dunfermline’s Townhill Primary School in 1972, firstly on the cornet before moving to flugel horn. He joined the Dunfermline Town Band that same year and has been a loyal member ever since! With a record of 52 years with the band, it is believed that he is only the third player of Dunfermline who has served all his playing days with the one band.
