Full range of brass talent on display at the Scottish Solo and Ensemble

Congratulations to all the winners and gold award recipients at yesterday’s (Saturday) Scottish Solo and Ensemble Championships which took place at the Bellshill Salvation Army Hall.

The full range of brass talent was on display as the young and more experienced players showcased their individual skills for the consideration of adjudicator Alan Friel.

All the Junior, Intermediate and Youth participants had qualified for the contest through their area association competitions.

First winner of the day was Evie Boax of Irvine & Dreghorn Youth Band who took the top award of the Kinneil Band Trophy in the Junior Solos category. Topping the Junior Ensembles section were St Ronan’s Silver A who won the Kirkintilloch Band Trophy.

In the Intermediate Solos, taking home the Whitburn Band Trophy for first place was Isla Gillespie of Selkirk and Galashiels and in the Intermediate Ensembles the winners of the Bo’ness & Carriden Trophy were the Campbeltown 16 and Under group.

Taking the Youth Solos top prize of the Scottish Coop Band Trophy was Charlie Boax of Whitburn Band. The winners of the Youth Ensembles were Campbeltown Brass, being awarded the Clydebank Burgh Band Trophy.

In the senior Open Solos class tuba player Robert Riddough of Dunaskin Doon Band took the honours.

Piano accompanist for the day was Gina Baker.
